Default Sumi's for Daily Driving?

Needing new tires in a baaad way. Of course money is tight, so new tires for the 18's may not be an option. I'm contimplating selling off my 18's and going to 17's.

My real question is, what are your thoughts on 315/35/17 Sumi HTR Z's as a daily driving tire. I do most of my driving on the interstate. I don't race, so I am not interested in drag radials, etc. How do the sumi's perform in weather conditions? How fast do they wear down? Just looking for opinions from people who have run them, not those who have only heard about them.

keep the 18s!! I just bought Nexens a few weeks ago. 275 35 18's for my saleens...they were 325 mounted and balanced and aligned for two of them. They are great for daily driving thus far. My only complaint is that even thought they are pretty fat tires, anything with over 98 horsepower will get these tires to spin like hell. Awesome for burnouts too! hahaha

i think they're like 160 tread wear rating, a nitto drag radial is 200. I'd go nitto 555 if you can swing it, they hold up pretty well. but sumi's will be fine for DD'ing thats what i did on my GT. they do wear kinda fast IMO

Any tire wears fast on bodukes cars. So also take that into consideration

also, treadwear ratings vary from company to company. the number is based on the other tires in their own personal lineup, not with other tires on the market, so take that into consideration as well.

now as far as the sumi's go, i've read quite a few bad things about the HTR Z's, although have no experience with them. however, i have heard much better things about the HTR Z II's, which i have had on my car for the past 1000 miles. they do spin a little more than youd expect for fat tires, but they do have a good traction and treadwear rating (i think theyre guaranteed for 30k or 40k miles?), esp compared to the older HTR Z's. so far theyve handled good in the rain and have no complaints DD'ing with em. my .02

I'm on my third set of those rear tires.

They won't hook for crap esp. with my S/C setup I have now.

But I used to DD my car and they were great, I never hydroplaned with them, low to no noise, ride is decent. They last good long time cuz they are like plastic(aka no traction)

the only reason im on diff. sets is because my fender cuts into the sidewall of them. My old set after a bunch of burnouts are now on my roommates car and still goin.

115.00 new (give or take) - 315/35/17 Sumi HTR Z's
188.00 new (give or take) - 315/35R17 Nitto NT-555 EXTREME ZR

Granted thats another $240... prob don't wanna speed that much, great great tire though. Sumi's are bad for a cheap tire.... not expensive fairly good in rain. I'd check out eagle F1's... haven't purchased a set in a while of these so idk how much they run. But i was happy running these as a DD.

Fixed But yea, the Sumi's wear fast and they dont hook, which you would expect from a tire with that low of a treadwear rating as well as how quick they wear out.

A fender roller and a heat gun is your friend.. My Nitto's were rubbing... I have a chunk missing all around my passenger rear tire... It's not too bad, but i rolled the fender and now no more problems. I can't afford another $205 for a f*ckin nitto 315/35/17

Im half tempted to buy a set of the 10th anniversary dd wheels from OE Wheels in anthracite and then put the NT05's on them as they are cheaper and put the winter tires on these wheels or something. I dont know yet.
