Default Cheapest options for Catalytic Converters?

So... I'm a full-time student who just landed a minimum wage job at Wal-mart, with a 1996 GT (which I still need to post some half-decent pictures of). I've had the car for a while, but its been laid up in the garage most of that time with a couple problems. I'll get into that later...

Point is, I'm on the last stretch before I can get it licensed and start driving it everyday. Sadly, the biggest and most expensive problem it had when I bought it got saved for last, it needs a full exhaust system. Now, I've already talked to a local exhaust shop and got a quote for a full custom H-pipe for about $300 (any better and cheaper suggestion, please tell me). Where things get sketchy is the car has no converters, and some googling shows them to be waaaaaaay pricey. Any suggestions on the best place to get a cheap set?

If your state does not require an emissions test then i say buy a summit O/R H pipe and a Flowmaster exhuast system. I bought mine and spent a little over 350 bucks. Also I have my stock exhuast system with cats and my garage that i will sell real cheap. Just not sure if it will fit on your car tho..

Here's where I got mine.

They're great and cheap. They don't affect performance at all and now my car doesn't make my clothes smell like gasoline. If WV has emissions I can't guarantee you that it'll pass because I've never had to test mine, but they're worth it for eliminating the smell.

Air: I always wondered how those little spun cats would work. Whenever I may need cats I was going to get those, but never knew how they effected emissions.

Glad they got at least one thumbs up.

Thanks guys, this is exactly what I needed. Lizzy, PM shot good sir. Air, excellent site, I've already picked out a nice setup that I'm content with that won't break the bank.

Default o/r h pipe weld in cat?

I just bought a used 2002 GT, the used car dealer said there were cats but I had a shop look at it. guess what..no cats. Can you install cats into a O/R H pipe? I'm hoping not to have to buy a whole H pipe withn cats.

Humanseive go back to where you bought the car. Don't let them b/s you they have to do this. Federal law. They do not want to as cats cost $$$$$, and that is out of their profit. Yes you can have high flow cats welded in a o/r pipe.
