Default What's the best cruising speedto get the best gas mileage

It's my 2000 GT 5 speed, I know my old car used to get better gas mileage at higher speeds because it brought it up int the powerband. What speed do these things do best at? Also would some 3.73's or something actually help mileage (bring the rpm's up into the power band, or make it easier for the engine to move the car), or do they tend ot make it worse? I do mostly highway driving, but morning traffic is stop and go at times.

Want gas mileage? Buy a Honda. As far as getting the best you can out of your Mustang, just drive the speed limit and shift 2500-3000 rpms.

If I wanted 30+ MPG I wouldn't have bought a Mustang GT, I also wouldn't buy a honda because I hate foreign vehicles. I just sold my 30 MPG Taurus SHO for this car, I know it's not going to get the same mileage, but is it a sin to ask how to get the best out of it?

Anyway, 2500-3000 is really how to get the best mileage? That sounds like a pretty high rpm to shift for the best gas mileage. But I was talking more crusing speed, I know my SHO got better mileage at 75 then 55-70 and my moms car gets better mileage at 80-85 then slower speeds. I was just wondering if these things were the same way.

With my 4.10s and my long commute I find the most optimal speed to be is at 70. That way if turrets kicks in or a 350z needs to get his *** handed to him, I'll be a couple blinks away from a sprint to 115 and back down.

I have stock gears Some mods, but nothing to brag about, I won't be spankin anything worth bragging about with this setup. I just use my car as a fun DD which is why I was curious about a good cruising speed.

One day I'm sure she'll be running 10's, but thats a couple hundred thousand miles away, and probably about 5-10 years depending on how many miles I put on my summer cars.

So basically the slower the better? I mean I can't do 55 on the highway I'll get plowed over, 65 is probably as slow as I can go. So basically the faster I go the worse it tends to get? Opposite of my old SHO, faster = better mileage, that was nice to have haha.

with my factory gears and being an auto, anything about 65-85 seemed to keep the mpg at 21-23

55-60 mph. For every 6mph over 60mph you lose 10% in the mileage dept.

How did you get better mileage at a faster speed? That seems ridiculous.
