Default Motor Help

I may have to rebuild my motor or add new heads.... but i have no idea what half this stuff means... i don't plan on adding a blower or turbo... my plan is to make an N/A motor within budget. My problem is I just don't know what type of kit is good for a daily ride. What kind of heads are good? I'm just at a complete loss.... please help

Go to modularheadshop.com and look at nick mckinney's lineup of parts. He has a dd 300rwhp package for a pretty good price.

i'm not sure if i really have to rebuild my motor or replace the head yet... i'm gonna do my compression and leak down test today... i have a shudder problem at idle thats been a cause of concern for over a year now... my fear is i have low compression in a cylinder or a leaking valve. so i'm just trying to get ideas to what i'm looking at as far as a rebuild in the motor or a new set of heads

my budget is best bang for the buck lol... i don't really have much of a budget... i've been seeing stroker kits for around $1200 and obviously heads in the same area... now if i do either on what all do i need to do? besides a tune... but do i need new cams, fuel injectors ect... ?

IDK man.. If you're talking about a N/A 2V pushing 400 horses you better get ready to shell out alot of bucks... I know you said that you don't want a blower but man you really should consider it..

I suggest you read up on some of the motor build threads. To make 400rwhp N/A on these motors, plan on multiplying that $1200 dollar budget by 10.

Budget build 101:

NPI shortblock(96-98gt)
Used PI heads, have them ported locally at a REPUTABLE machine shop
Cams of your choice(stage 2)

The shortblock you can get for usually around 300 bucks. Wether you rebuild it or not depends on you. Porting will be around 500 bucks, same with cams.

This stuff with a good tune and bolt ons will put you over the 300 mark(should). Thats enough to have a lot of fun, for not a whole hell of a lot of money....IF you can do the installs yourself.
