Default Underdrive Pulleys

Looking to begin modding my 96 GT that I recently acquired. I was just curious as to how much aftermarket Underdrive Pulleys will help the performance of my vehicle, and what brand to purchase them from.

very little.

5hp at the most. and there can be horrible side effects to UDP's, some cars will take to them fine, but others will struggle particularly at idle with accessories running (ac, stereo, whatever).

things you should do

midpipe and catback - a few hp gained, but mostly for the sound factor
gears, your stock gears are terrible they are 2:73's most likely
PI swap
k+n air filter, and remove the silencer

UDP's really don't help any at all. I wouldn't spend the money on them. I agree on the gears, exhaust, and PI swap.

Thanks, that saves me some cash. Got the CAI on the way, and already plan for plenum and larger throttle body. major downside is I live in Cali. I have to obey SMOG laws, which means Catalitic converters right where those dandy off-road H or X pipes should be. And I'm not dropping more hundreds on High Flow cats.

How much would the gear work be, and how is it done?

Where in CA? Yes the emissions suck here. are you handy with a tool? If so just buy an o/r mid pipe and swap out when needed. Everyone preaches about 4.10's, personally I have 3.73's but it's how I bought my car!

I'm up in the Sac area, this little hick town called Dixon. doesn't show up on your average map. As for tools I'm handy. H-pipes are just bolt-on, right? I can handle it as long as no welding is involved.
So how do you change the gears?
I also put some pics up, and some info on the car so you know what i'm workin with.

Been threw there on my way to Tahoe a few times, Ya, most h-pipes are bolt-on, I'd just ask from whoever you buy it from to confirm. Dunno how to change gears, just take it to a shop....
