You clearly have a faulty argument and are now realizing that. Would only make sense you retire. Im surprised you didn't earlier. As I already got on Nick for is the fact that spinning higher will result in a new SB to be able to be afraid of the expansion of the rods to cause any damage. According to nick a steel rod stretches .025" at 7,000 rpms. That still leaves you with .025" of clearance IF YOU can spin it that high with steel rods. Understand? Also if installed correctly and turned the engine over by hand you can tell if there will be PTV contact. If there is then you degreed them wrong. If there aren't any then your good to go.

You realize .005" is basically the thickness of a human hair? As you start spinning higher rpms that clearance only decreases. I have personally talked to a buddy of mine that has seen what the CMS Stage 2 did to a motor. The thing Nick has said before is that the pistons and valves are so hard that you could have PTVC and not know it.

This argument/debate is really pointless. You aren't going to change your mind and you aren't trying to see from the point of the people who don't want to run cams that have that little of clearance.

I'm putting in my notice that I am officially retiring from this thread.
You heard Nick (a competitor) say that they have '.005" give or take' and you talked to a buddy so says he saw them do damage to a motor (which who knows if they were installed correctly). At least admit that your whole reason for thinking they are unsafe isn't based on any real evidence. How can you take what you heard a couple guys say over 7 years of these cams proving themselves on and off the track? I will add that one of the biggest selling points of the CMS stage 2 cam back in the day was the fact that you didn't even need to degree them. Many of the guys that are running them have never degreed them at all. Yet you don't see threads of them damaging motors like you do for cams that have PTV clearance problems like the comp 270s.

This thread really got out of control and I am stepping out of the bitchfest myself but I do have to respond to the above. This is the wrong way to test for PTV as you can depress the lash adjuster 0.080" turning the motor over by hand as there is no oil pressure to keep it pumped up. You will never know you had PTV doing it this way. Only way to test for PTV is with a solid lash adjuster and either a dial indicator or Silly Putty between the valve and piston.
