Default HP LIMITATIONS?

I was wondering around what hp can be run safely before haveing to fordge? Because iv seen guys pushin 430 with just boost and cams, my 01 dynod 380 rwhp, and i know most shops dont tune any higher than 10 psi on a stock internal, if u guys could give me some insight on numbers versus reliability id appriciate it.

i think 400 is cutting it way to close. id rather not have to clean out bearing or rod pieces from a block while im trying to forge a motor, if you catch my drift

Dependings on the tune. JayC is running 479hp, a local guy here is running around 500hp on the stock block and I have seen many people running around 425hp on the stock block. IMO anything more than 425hp is getting risky.

You can run 500rwhp. Your rods may go into orbit, however, it will be one hell of a ride for those few minutes. lol I'd stick around 400rwhp if you want to be on the safe side.

I'd be happy with 380-400....Unless of course you are looking for a "new" project...

380 is perfect. If you wanted to push envelope go with blower cams as they reduce boost while increasing your power. High boost = higher overall motor compression = greater strain on your internals.

I was at 410 rwhp 11 psi and cracked top of my piston after 3,000 miles.

i wouldnt even say that 400 is safe. theres no guarantees. theres people blowing motors with 350, and theres people running 450 just fine. its all luck of the draw. some people get a rod with that little hairline crack from the factory, others get factory freaks that will never die. anything man made will always have a chance for flaws, so there is no guarantee what, in addition, to stock HP numbers they will hold.

heres the thing. doing head and cam work makes it easier for your car to make power, so your car isnt relying on boost only. this is why you see all the 3/4v guys running well over 400whp.

will your car be safe to take over 400whp if you do cams? i still say no, but you should know by now your skating a risky line with a blower on a stock bottom end, how far you want to push it is always going to be UP TO YOU. the higher you go from where your at now, the greater the chance of failure.

As I related in earlier posts, I asked just this question of a friend that has been in the Mustang tuning business for over 20 years--with no hesitation he said "They break at 420rwHP, you can set your watch by it".

This of course does not mean that they ALL break at 420rwHP, just that unless you "feel lucky today" your are pushing the envelope over that number....
