Default New Transmission is in... Finally.

I hope, pray, plead that I never have to change out a transmission again. I broke my 3-4 Shift fork in my t45 transmission so I didn't have 3rd or 4th gear. Got a TR3650 to replace it with because it was cheaper than rebuilding mine. Was doing the tear down and all was going swimmingly until I got to the top 2 bell housing bolts. The drivers side one was a PITA but eventually I got it off. Went to the passenger side and the bolt was partially rounded off. Additionally, the socket kept slipping off to where it eventually became totally rounded. I ended up having a bunch of stuff going on last week so I had 0 time to mess with it. Finally, I dropped it off at a shop to take the 1 bolt off and then had my car towed back to me. Just finished putting everything back together about an hour ago. On the plus side, it did allow me to rerun my intercooler piping and drop down my intercooler about 3 inches so its significantly more noticeable and gets more air now.

What were you using to get those two bolts out?

I dropped three trannies in the that last two months. I thought they were pretty easy.

Go get yourself some long 3/8" extensions from HF, next time. They have a two footer and a nice set of different sizes ranging from 3" to 18". Put a 13mm swivel socket on the end so it fits over the bolt completely, so you don't round them off. Use about 30" of extensions so you can reach them easily. You can even use an impact gun if you want to.

The extensions and 13mm swivel work nice for getting the three starter bolts out too.

i think he was talking about it already being rounded off. which sucks big time. but at work when i pull a trans i find it rather easy to just pull the cross member to drop it down as much as possilbe, and i have a nice range of impact sockets, and a 36" impact extension that has a 1/2" inlet and 3/8" outlet size. those two plus my impact equals all bellhousing bolts off in less than 5 mins.

lol you should have just got the next size smaller socket, hammered it on that one bolt and then ripped it off, i'm sure the one socket would be cheaper than the shop and the tow lol.

Yeah pretty much. I had trouble with clearance. Honestly, the shop was about 50 yards from my house and they just towed it themselves for free. Charged me for 1 hour of labor so was nice and easy.

Kerns was the 3650 a direct swap to the t45?
