Default ECT sensor location?

i've read a lot of articles on the location of the ECT(Engine Coolant Temperature) sensor, and they say that there's 2 of them on our cars. i know theres one on the coolant crossover, but i cant seem to find the 2nd one. they say that the 2nd one is located in the rear of the motor where the heater lines come out of, but i cant find it anywhere. can anyone clear this up for me?

my cars idles like it has a mean cam in it when i start it up in cold weather, and i read that a bad ect sensor can cause that.

I've often wonder this too.. because the pre-pi cars have them both in the front of the intake manifold, but when you do a PI swap, you have to find another location for the second one.

There is only one on the PI engines of which I am aware, and shown in the shop manual, on the left (as you look at it) of the crossover.

I believe (could be wrong) that on the earlier models there was one that provided feedback to the PCM, and another that controlled the engine cooling fan. On the PI engines there is only one and the PCM controls the fan.

yes... you are correct on the older models. When I first finished my PI swap, the sensor that controls the fan had a bad connection so the EEC just kept the fan on all the time... fail.
