actually in warm weather theyre decent and 2nd only spins for a little more than a chirp but it seems like if its colder than 45-50 degree's i can punch it from a dig or a 10-15 mph roll and burn em to the ground bouncing off the limiter in 2nd...when in warm weather they do great though

Go 265's and will be MUCH happier and take the word of someone who has lived his whole life in persuit of the corner. You will not get the improvement of grip you seek going oversized tires, only the "look" of improved grip due to width. You will get "rollover" of tires on corners and your car will feel sloppy and have less than ideal tread wear over time.
You really need to pick your poison here.... turns or stright light grip. There is NO inbetween when it comes to being great at both.

Hoss, he's going off of cliffyk's calculator, which takes into consideration how overall tall the tire is inflated on a car with full weight applied to it. I think it's the loaded diameter.

When ppl say they want a 27/28" tall tire they are not taking into consideration the loading, they are talking about its unloaded diameter. If he was to get that tire, and another tire that was say a 40 profile....depending on whos calculator you use they will read the same diameter... but true to life they will preform different. Thats why I think Cliffs calculator is not really applicable when comparing to "industry" calculators.
Its good for us with mustangs, but if you spit out that info to someone else with a different car it doesnt hold true. Non uniformity can show its head in this one. But then again I used to work at Discount Tire... sooo I tend to stick with the standard measurements for tires.

^ Agreed
The issue is ultimately about clearance. If the tire was 28" diameter loaded/unloaded and basically flat at the point of contact, the tire would still be the same clearance all the way around the fender. No matter who's calculator one uses, this measurement does not change. This does not apply to mileage calculation, however, as lower/higher pressures will effect the numbers.

If you like corners.... DO NOT GO WITH 285's!
