No, the setting refers to the # of cylinders the switch is using for the signal not the particular cylinder #.

So your tapped into the #8 cyl closest to the driverside firewall and have the msd set to 1?

Just curious as to why the #8 ?

Yes. I used that cylinder just because it was convenient for where my wires come through my firewall. I have my switch mounted inside of my glovebox.
