Default front hub replacement

Finally! I was able to use my outrageously priced Snap-On 3/4" torque wrench that I bought in 1994 for something other than lug nuts! That hub job is easy, but dang... the torque spec called for 258 lbs!

So whatever happened to the old minimally torqued retaining nut and keeper setup that was on my Fox body? This thing is built like a 3/4 ton truck or something like that.

For giggles I called the dealer and they quoted me 3 figures for the part and 1.5 hours labor for a 30 minute job. Has anyone else been quoted that much labor for this job? Or was Scarff in Auburn just scanning me?

Update. I replaced that hub assembly because while the wheel was rolling in a turn it had a little rolling squeak. If I turned it hard to the right while driving slow, it was more evident. So o replaced the hub assembly (and the bearings were sloppy) so I thought it was the hub for sure. Now when I make that same hard right turn, it still squeals when rolling, just not as bad. When I did the brakes a month ago, I discovered a stick caliper, so I replaced that. Could this be brake noise? It doesn't seem to change much while applying them while in a turn.

Have you check the Rotors? Or the ball joints? My Stang did this tell i put a new wheel hub. Fix the problem. Good luck

I guess I was mistaken, I can't make it squeak at all now. I am thinking I was hearing a different noise. When I did the brakes, I replaced all 4 rotors and used ceramic pads. Noticed early on that the front driver's side caliper was sticking so I ended up replacing that. Brakes work great, not a single noise, but the wear area on the rotor that had the sticky caliper is a good .40 less than that of the passenger side. Too add, the area that is not wearing has surface rust like any rigor would that doesn't make contact. I suppose as the pads wear more, they may be slowly edging into that rusted area and with the little contact that is made while the brakes aren't applied it could be making a little residual noise that I might not hear

I greased the ball joints with a needle while I had the hub off and actually about a month ago when I was getting some steering squeak while turning the wheel.

I think I am just going to let it go for now as it isn't making any noise, but will watch it carefully.

Thanks!
