I would never consider running straight pipes and no cats.

That may not be too bad with the cats. As long as its just for sound bc it may feel a bit slower off the line without mufflers then again the cats may help out a bit with that. Str8 pipes with cats may not be that bad sounding though heard it on a gt a few years ago it didnt sound too bad he had the factory midpipe with no mufflers.

But keep in mind the 4V sound will differ from a 2V sound. Will that hrlp or hinder your situation? I don't know. But I look at it this way, It cost me $40 to have the muffler deletes made and a hour or so to put them in. Compared to buying diff catbacks/midpipes to get the sound you are looking for. Start cheap and go from there.
Personally I get bored too often for my own good with my exhaust combo, so as it sits now, I have Catted H and can put on MRT Max Thunder mufflers, Magnapack mufflers (which I'm selling though) or the muffler deletes. If I get the urger I'll swap CB sections and drive with it for a month or so then do something else LOL.
I wanted an exhaust that is good for long trips (it I make one) I'll use the MRT mufflers, if I want to be louder I'll go SSS or Magnapacks, if I want to be obnoxious I'll use the deletes lol
