You may have to get down in there and slit the boot, I have done this by grinding a hack saw blade into a long taper with a sharpened, pointed edge--hold it with vise grips, or a hacksaw blade holder:
Slit the boot on opposite sides and then use the fish hook pliers...
well, it seems I'm not the only one to have had this trouble at least... I was thinking that after one week I managed to screw up my "new" car and I was the only one stupid enough to do this!

Whenever my '03 GT needs something, like the recent intake manifold coolant leak, SWMBO get's on my case. I tell her it's because it's a "junk car"; an 8-year old American car with 115k on it..
Thats great! I just wish I could have driven it for a while before all this started... My own fault I wanted another car so I could learn to fix 'em myself!
