Default Did I overpay for this 2001 Mustang GT? (First Post)

Hi guys and girls! I've recently joined the Mustang family and I'm very excited about it!

Was just wondering what y'all thought about the $$$ I paid for my 'stang and whether or not it was fair/over priced/a steal.

It is a 2001 Mustang GT. Black, tan interior, cloth seats, 5 speed. 93,XXX miles. Bone stock except for Flowmaster cat backs, and olderish-looking aftermarket Radio headunit. I believe it is made by "Premier." Everything mechanically is perfect. Clutch is nice and tight - drives like a dream compared to all the rats I've looked at and test driven over the past 3 weeks.

My dad's a life long mechanic and only noticed that the front and rear bumpers have been repainted, something I would've never noticed. Just slight dings over the right rear wheel well. Typical wear and tear on the steering wheel and other usual high-traffic areas in the interior. He says the engine sounds perfect, no knocks or ticks.

We negotiated to $6,000. I think its fair, so does my dad. What do you guys think?

I paid $8000 for a GT convertible with 80,000miles.

I look around on craigslist alot when people tell me about prices they pay on cars, and that price is about right for GT coupe that kind of mileage.

V6's go cheap...anywhere from $2000-$4000. GT's more like $5,000-7,000 and convertibles add about $1000 to the coupe price.

Hope that helps. I find doing a search on craisgslist and autotrader always calms the worries about car value. If i have a second I'll do a search and post links.

Welcome!

Seems like a good deal to me. Most people around here want $10k for a gt with around 100k on the clock.

Do you have any pics of the car that you can post?

welcome to MF. There are many variables to car prices and local markets. Sounds like a good deal to me but what really matters is are you happy? If you are then its a good deal so don't worry much about it. Just go out and enjoy it.

That's a fair price , i just bought a 2004 gt with 60k miles, loaded with leather for 9k. It has 3.73's a 5 speed, under drive pulleys, a steeda tri ax shifter, mach1 front skirt, a kenwood system with sub woofer....i have since added an american muscle smoked headlight kit, brand new hawk performance ceramic brake pads, and hawk front and rear rotors. future upgrades will be an aluminum driveshaft, Bassani cat back, steeda cold air intake....good luck with the car.
