Default Stock stereo stopped working

Over the past couple days, the stereo would cut out when I hit a bump. All lights would turn off on the radio controls and there would be no sound. Now it doesn't work at all. I'm thinking a connection was loose and is now disconnected. I've never worked with audio stuff before, how do I get in there to check the connections?

it takes a special tool, but you can get them most anywhere or even make your own when you actually see what it looks like.
Here is a Youtube on the removal:

and here is how to make the tool with a coathanger:

Your problem could be from the fuse box to inside the radio... if you have a DMM check the voltage on both sides of the connector on the back of the radio first, and work from there.

That looks crazy easy. I would have been pulling my dash apart to get it out.

If you're doing all that I would just upgrade to a new sound system...

I'm not an audio guy. The stock system is worlds better than the one on my old vehicle which I also never touched. Plus i don't have much cash right now.

The trouble with electrical gremlins is you very well could end up doing that. If it really is just the radio that is affected, it probably isn't that bad.

When you were losing your power before, were you also having to reset your clock and the radio presets? I'm not 100% sure on the stang, but on ALL of the other audio systems I have worked on, there is actually more than 1 power lead to the head unit. And then there is also the grounding you have to check.

Even if you were going to replace the head unit, you would still most likely have to fix the power issue first. It could be something internal to the head unit, but I would want to make doubly sure that was the case before throwing a new head unit at it.

My stang now is the first car of mine that I haven't put an aftermarket head unit in within months of getting it. I have thought about it, but the stock unit is doing the job that I want of it. Besides, with a vert, I don't want to give the average hooligan any extra reason to tear my car up.

I'll let go off my stocker for 75 shipped. And remember it's never been used since the day the car rolled off the showroom floor and into my hands.
