04 Auto with 80k miles and the trans fluid is brownish, smells burned and the trans shifts really hard into OD. will new fluid and a good flush help this? new to autos.
Well I'd try it at least. Flushing the fluid and such is a lot cheaper than getting a used trans. If it fixes it, then youre good. If not, then you know you need to pursue other options.
You can flush it but it sounds like the bands are burned up in there but I could be wrong. Any slippage?
i dont think so. i havent ever driven an auto so i honestly couldnt tell you. but i think if it were slipping it would have put down weaker numbers on the dyo.
I would go ahead and change the fluid and see what you have after that, if theres any signs of gunkage in there then I would NOT change it, alot of the time the gunk holds stuff together and plugs stuff and a flush usually give the tranny a nice shove to the fast lane of falling apart which is a ghetto way to look at it but can extend the time before you have to rebuild or replace.
Turbo232, I notice mine does the same thing about 2 out of 10 times, have you noticed it doing it every time? and does it kind of hang at a certain RPM before it shifts or anything weird? Just curious as to what you find out what you do to fix this..

i would say 1 out of 3 times it feels like the rear end jumps when it shifts into OD. i have found that turning OD off and when getting to cruising speed and turning it on while off the gas makes it shift damn near perfect every time...but i forget alot
