Default 146,000 miles worth getting?

I looked at an 01 GT today. It had 146,000 miles on it. It runs strong and is really clean for that many miles. Not sure if the motor has ever been rebuilt or not. Supposedly the tranny had new seals put in it and it has a new clutch and t/o bearing. I drove it a short way but didn't have time to take a long test drive. Paint is in pretty good shape, no faded spots and no clearcoat peeling off the plastic part. Should I be scared of the mileage? Eventually I wanna put a s/c on it but with that many miles it made need a rebuild(or a 4v swap) before I put that on it. What do you guys think? Is it worth it if I get it for a good price?

for the right price I wouldn't have a problem with it. The 4.6L can take allot of miles if it was well taken care of

It depends on how it was taken care of and what you are paying. I would not pay more than 4k for the car unless it is immaculate. I bought my 97 Cobra for 5k with 141k on it and at 142k it spun a rod bearing. The rest of the car is in pretty good shape. Had I known I would have 1) paid less or 2) looked for something with less miles. I picked up another 4v 4.6 but paid close to 3k for it. The car ran great when I bought it, still ran great when the bearing spun but it was clacking. A SOHC PI 4.6 will be a lot less expensive to replace, though, if you need to. Bottom line - make sure it runs good and don't pay too much.

Guy is asking just under 7K. I can probably get it down a little from there. I was impressed with how clean the car was and it drove fine. Also like that all my stuff from the 03 GT will fit on this car. I was just a little concerned about miles.

I am going tomorrow to look at some other cars. Found a 97 cobra with 88K miles for under 9K. Going to go check it out.

Thanks for the help. Hopefully I will have a new Stang soon.

seems like the prices on both cars are high. but that might be because of your area, a stang with that high miles where i live would be going for between 4500-5500.

Talk him down big time! I sold my 2003 GT with 107k miles for 6k. Bring it down to at least 5k

depending on how close you are, try looking for stangs in texas. i've found they have pretty reasonable prices there. anything over 5.5k for that mileage is a rip
