Default Wont shift into second

The other night my friend's 2002 Mustang GT stopped shifting correctly into second. It just grind unless he slams it into gear and it wants to pop back out. It shifts fine into and out of every other gear. Besides long tubes and a non catted xpipe his car is stock. He however drives it very hard and learned to drive stick with it. His car has around 78,000 miles. He talked to a shop and they said it sounds like an adjustable clutch quadrant. To me it seems like if that was a fix for the problem it would effect all gears. Could this be a transmission internal problem? I used the search and only found threads on auto cars. Thanks.

Pretty sure its the clutch, if he drives it hard and its a stock clutch it can't handle that much... clutches that get beat real bad die within 15-20k miles i'd say, depending on the car.

I had a 00 GT, just died a week ago, anyway when i bought it the clutch was horrid and finally burnt out completely, i could barely shift into 2nd but the rest of the gears worked fine, later that night all

the gears acted as if they were in neutral, had to get a new clutch put me down around ~800 than it worked fine.

A bad clutch would be a consistant issue in all gears. With gears falling out 1 by 1, it sounds like the trans itself is internally damaged. Possibly syncros

try pressing the clutch all the way and letting it pop back out a few times to adjust it

You don't meds to do all that. Put your foot behind the pedal and pull your foot towards your body. If it moves, its adjusting.
