Took a new 5.0 for a spin today...
Hey all,
Just stopping by to say hello and share an experience with you all! A friend from this board(saleen344 I think is his username) recently sold his saleen and bought a 2011 GT. Its Ingot Silver brembo package with 3.73's and a muffler delete kit on it from AM. We went out for breakfast this morning to catch up and we took the 5.0. On the way back, he proceeded to scare the living daylights out of me in the turns(these things handle and brake WELL! considering the cold roads and stock rubber with all that braking force) and then he pulled over and let me drive it.
I tell you what...I'm sold. A new 2011+ GT is going to be my next car. I've read all about these cars and when I first read about them on paper, I thought these cars were going to be a flop, minus of course the motor. But after finally driving one, I have to say Ford did it. They finally have a stout muscle car on the market once again in the Mustang GT. No longer do you need to buy a GT500 to get a hell of a performing car stock. This car was so smooth, so easy to drive, and just an all around amazing car. Steering is crisp and responsive, brembo brakes were phenomenal, and the power just comes on and the thing doesnt stop pulling until just before the 7000rpm redline!
And one of the biggest things I was skeptical of when reading about it was the transmission and the ratios Ford chose. First gear is 3.66 and 2nd is 2.43, and they moved the 1:1 gear to 5th, all of which I thought was CRAZY to put in a car like this. But after driving, I wouldnt change it whatsoever. The clutch was light, shifts super smooth, and with the close ratios, you didnt every drop out of the power band...not even close.
All in all, LOVE the new 2011+'s. From personal experience, they are overall great cars and they dyno at like 370rwhp stock and respond really well to bolt-ons. I've seen many in the 420-430rwhp range with full bolt-on's. And to make this kind of power and still be able to crank out mid 20's is really awesome.
Just thought I would share my experience with you all! If you have the chance, go drive one. They are amazing! It has made me set my goals for one of these to be my next car after I graduate college.
Hope everyone's new years is going well and thanks for keeping our section clean!

Last summer I took a short test drive in a Grabber Blue '11 with 3.55's I believe and the Navigation.
The interior, as well as the 'feel' of the car was just totally out of the leage of what I'm used to (I don't drive nor ride in new cars that often, so to be fair that might have something to do with it). I was able to get on it a little bit around 30-40 mph and it sure wants to go.
One thing I didn't like was the clutch feel. I've never routinely driven a hydraulic clutch vehicle, so that would take a LOT of getting used to.
I spent the summer and this fall/winter saving up for a new GT, but have since changed my mind to a '13 Shelby, so I'll be reporting back with that.

I was at the track yesterday with a guy that has a new 5.0 with DRs (completely stock otherwise). He has the 3.31 rear gear ratio.
He was running 12.3's all day. 3.73 gears would help it for sure. VERY IMPRESSIVE for a bone stock GT.
I want one also!!!

The new 5.0s are great. My buddy ordered one and got it last fall. Its grabber blue, 3.73s, and 6 speed. I took it for a spin and they are amazing like you said. Hes ran it at the track a couple times already. Only mod he did was SVT mufflers. The car wheel hops terribly through first and most of second, and he runs out of gear at the end of the track and still managed a best of 12.44 @ 114....they move out!
