S197 ride quality vs New Edge ride quality
Working at a Ford Dealership I get to drive all the new models. Comparing the S197 compared to my 02 GT, I really like the feel of the S197 compared to my New Edge. However, I think My 02' GT handles so much better than the current S197. The Boss 302 and Shelby are a completely different story, though.
I'm not talking about handling for track use I'm talking about ride quality as a DD. It wouldn't bother me knowing the car is heavier. I like Mustangs, want good ride quality and something with a little power. That's why I asked about the newer S197s.
Then the s197 will win hands down, they have a much more plush ride.
The truth is, that there is simply NO COMPARISON between the New-Edge and s197 when it comes to handling (and many other aspects) of these cars.
Certanly I can understand (and sympatize) with New-Edge owners in that they wish to try and convince themselves (and others) that the New-Edge is comparable to the s197 in whatever regards, but, C'MON, it is not even in the same BALLPARK when it comes to handling!! It is not even in the BALLPARK in several other categories!!
HOW can anyone even THINK that a 70's Ford Fairmont chassis can even TOUCH a NEWLY redesigned from the ground-up Ford 2005+ chassis? LOL. C'mon!!
I have owned Fox Mustangs, a New Edge, and now a S197, and lets not BS here, the S197 makes the older generation mustangs look prehistoric when it comes to handling as well as many other areas. Again, I can understand and SYPATHIZE with New-Edge-loyalists, but c'mon.
And the weight for these cars are not all that mush different. The curb-weight for an 05+ Mustang GT 5-speed is a bit over 3400 lbs, while the New-Edge is a bit over 3200. Not a really an earth-shattering massive weight differance, and to be honest, the S197 feels much lighter when hard cornering as well as normal driving. MUCH lighter.
Lets not have model-loyalty get in the way of answering the question folks! The New-Edge is a FUN car, but the S197 BLOWS IT AWAY!!!!!!!

I've driven both and have to agree the S197 does ride/drive better than a New Edge..............But I like the seating position better in the NE in terms of the relationship between the driver's seat, steering wheel, dashboard, and looking out over the hood.
