Default I had another crazy thought today

So like some of you probably know I'm in the market for a new mustang. But I was thinking today how much my insurance might kill since I already got in a wreck with my 96 gt and it totaled a brand new avalanche (and it was "my fault"). I don't know anything about transmissions and if they only work specific motors but would it be cheaper to buy a v6 with 130K+ miles for like $2000 then spend another $2000 to get a crate 302CI Short Block and do an engine swap? I have access to an engine lift. I mean I feel like v8 engines last a while longer than v6's and can handle more abuse. Then on top of that my insurance would only charge me for a v6 mustang. I'm really not sure if it's a good idea or not, just because I don't know enough about doing an engine swap. So what are your words of wisdom?

You can't just bolt up a 302. I've seen many people get v6 mustangs and do a v 8 swap tho, however you will need a new rear and front springs(v8's weight more). And im not sure what all electrical you will need to change but it can be done, but I don't think the 302 can be tho

I meant rear axle, the v6's are a 7.5 rear and the gt's are a 8.8

I mean is it something that can be done in a weekend? The springs and rear end change makes sense. Are you saying a 302 can't be put in these bays, or I can't just throw a v8 in there?

the 302 will drop right in, 3.8s came with t5s all the way to 04 which is the same trans the 302 used, you will infact need all the wiring and what not unless you plan on running a carb to get it to actually run, you can run it on the 7.5 rear if u want but if u start making some power the rear won't hold up to long. the k frame is also the same 3.8 to 5.0 with two wrecked under your belt how old are you?

^ i didnt think you could use the stock K, this may be a little easier to swap a 302 then i was thinking. But you will have a decent amount of wires to change up

Either buy a v6 with blown motor and a wrecked GT/cobra and swap everything out, or you could buy a GT/Cobra and wrecked v6 and just swap the VIN plates. However, if anything happens to it and the insurance company sends someone out to look at it, chances are they wont pay for it if they see you told them its a V6 when its really a V8

It was one wreck and it was complete bullsh*t. I had a green arrow in a turn lane and took it and some lady in a four week old avalanche t-boned me and caused be to ramp a curb and land on top of an electrical box that was on top of a small hill. So she hit me pretty hard. Well when the cops showed up she told them I ran a green yield, but little did she know that I was going to my girlfriend birthday party and some friends were in the car behind me and saw the whole thing. But the cops said since they were my friends they wouldn't take them as a witness. So they wrote me a ticket for not yielding at the green, totaled my car, totaled her car(And the only thing wrong with her car was the bumper, grille, and radiator.) and said I totaled the electrical box....then a month later my girl friend dumped me. Lol But I was 17 when it happend and I'm about to be 19.

Its an unfortunate fact that accidents happen. Knowing that, i would never go through with such an idea. Should you be in another one, whether its your fault or not, you'll be in some serious s**t if they find that you've got two more cylinders than the car you insured.
