04 mustang gt broken crank bolt
It was my attempt at a joke on your detective work with the bolt picture by using the game of clue as a reference. See below.
Rules for Clue (From the Parker Brothers Game Copyright 1998)
Object
Mr. Boddy is apparently the victim of foul play and is found in one of the rooms.
The object of the game is to discover the answer to these three questions:
1st. Who? Which one of the several suspects did it?
2nd. Where?
3rd. and with What Weapon?
The answer lies in the little envelope resting on the stairway marked X in the center of the board. The envelope contains 3 cards. One card tells who did it- another
card reveals the room in which it all happened, and the third card discloses the weapon used.
The player who, by the process of deduction and good plain common sense, first identifies the 3 solution cards hidden in the little envelope, wins the game.
This is accomplished by players moving into the rooms and making "suggestions" of what they believe is the room, the person and the weapon for the purpose of gaining information. This information may reveal which cards are in other players' hands and which cards are missing and must, therefore, be hidden in the little envelope.

Smh Brandon first of all it's not tile it's a laptop. And I just laid the bolts down and took that pics. How can they be two different pics combined?? I don't even know how to post pics on here!!! And how bout you put up that pic I sent you where the threads don't match up huh.

I didn't post any of that, so I'm not sure why you are posting towards me?

It may not be two photos but something doesn't add up--it could well be that the broken bolt was closer to the camera by quite a bit?
Can you get a photo of the broken bolt laid next to a ruler?
It seems that the bolt was correct. Bottom line is OP has to get the broken bolt out now.
I hope he will keep us updated on how he makes out with it.
Sadly, the pulley swap is simple, but at the same time it is easy for a novice wrench to wind up with a situation similar to OP.

I believe where I went wrong was in failing to consider that a photograph could be that distorted--time to reconsider my methods to include the very short focal length and poor optical quality (mostly barrel distortion) of many digital camera lenses.
I remain baffled nonetheless as to how the "broken" bolt could appear so close to being a manipulated image.

Probably would depend on how far bolt was screwed in. A quarter inch or half inch, I could see threads stripping out. But an inch or more, could result in the bolt breaking. Why wouldn't threads just "rip out" once the bolt bottomed out?
On a cross thread, you damage the threads from the beginning as you force the bolt deeper. In the case of an incorrect pitch, the bolt is allowed to screw further in before realizing something isn't correct. Once it slowly binds more and more, and you continue to force it, bolt will break.

Cliffy,
I'm shocked that you didn't pick up on the Clue reference. I figured our age group(45+) would all catch that immediately.
BTW, I like your assessment of the photo evidence. I completely agree that without any additional evidence refuting your conclusion, it seems pretty solid.
