A buddy of mine just picked up a 97 GT with a bad rod knock and he knows a guy that has a 4.6 that came out of a wrecked TBird. And he was wondering what the differences are between the mustang engine and the Tbird engine if any. Is there anyone on here that has experience with them?

 

Between the 97tbird engine and 97 mustang engine the only difference should be the oil pan. other than that it should all be the same as far as the engine goes.

 

I used to have a '96 T-Bird w/ the 4.6L, and as far as I know, they're identical. I think the only difference was the "packaging." (Air intake hose on different sides of the engine.)

 

the air intake hose on the mustang and tbird both go off to the left/psngr side. My dd is a 96 tbird with a 4.6 and my other ride is an 03 mustang gt. they both go off to the same side my intake tube from my mustang is on my tbird right now.
