I'll chime in here. I had a v6 for 3 months before I bought my GT. I liked my sixxer, but I love my GT sooo much more. You can never get enough of a nice sounding V8. A V6 is not a bad choice but just think if everytime you see a gt are you gonna wish you got that instead. Choose something that you want and fits the criteria you want.

The 3.8L cars (99-04) are stout motors, take very well to boost if you are looking for power, have good after market support, and if taken care of will throw down 30 MPG or higher (GTs aren't doing that).

You can pick them up cheaper than the GT counter part invest the left over $$ and have a car faster than a GT with the same amount invested, insurance is often times cheaper (depending on your background).

If you are looking for a good solid college car that will last, the V6 is a smart choice for you.

thats like asking if you would rather date the slightly slow girl in highschool or captain of the cheerleading team. But hey, with some plastic surgery the slow girl and look just as good as the other girl!

OP, if you can afford the GT, buy it. There is no reason to get a v6 mustang ever if you have the means to get a v8

Ive had a bit if experience with the 3.8s and basically came to the conclusion that they will always sounds like ****, seem to eat gas just as fast as a modular v8, and pretty much will not go fast without some sort of power adder (nitrous, turbo, supercharger) and even then your limited.

Of course a v6 guy is gonna be biased to a v6....the funny thing is even over where you posted in the v6 section it seems like they are telling you to a get a gt as well.

As far as the motor lasting, jesus christ, they use the modular 4.6 2vs in all the taxis and crown vics with 300-400-500k miles on them, I would say there's a good chance the 4.6 2v will outlive any 3.8 you buy.

Buy the GT, you will thank us later.

As whitefox said, theres no reason to buy the v6 if you can buy the v8

Incorrect.

Gas mileage is 90% in the driver....

http://forums.corral.net/forums/gree...eardsheet.html

Check that out,

When he was "hypermiling" he got 33 mpg on the highway and avgd 27 mpg combined.

bolt on 2000 gt with 273 rwhp and a 130+k miles on the clock

Ok, 95% of the GTs aren't doing that. And it's not just the driver -it has a LOT to do with the motor. Otherwise, any driver could get any mpg out of any motor. Thinking it's just the driver is stupid.
The other points being made by the V8 owners here are just proving my point. They take opinions as facts. There are LOADS of reasons to get a V6 even if you can afford the V8.

Same as how 99% of v6 owners dont see 30 mpg+ bro....

W/e, driver has a big impact on gas mileage, exactly why that guy is able to get 30 mpg+ and someone could drive like an *** and get 12 mpg with the same motor.

Thinking the driver doesnt impact mpg in a major way is just stupid....did you ever see the test top gear did with a prius and an m3? You should look into it, they
took the prius around a track as fast as they could and all they did was tail it in the m3, guess which car got better MPG?

Point is, the m3 avgd better mpg than a fricking prius because the prius driver was driving on the edge...

Anyways back on track, lets talk v6 vs v8, real talk....

What are the advantage of the v6 vs the v8 and do they really outweigh the positives of the v8?

v6 cheaper, possibly better mpg?

v8 makes more power, more potential for bolt on hp, sounds better(of course IMO), v8 car comes with 8.8 trac lok rear

What are the maintenance conditions of both Cars??? I was going to get a V6 mustang, then the Price for the V8 dropped. I had the money for the V8 and went for it. Still no regrets. Good luck with your choice. And dont worry about Gas mileage, its a Mustang

Please start listing them. Just because you got stuck ith a v6 and had to drop $$ to make it even drivable, does not mean you have to talk someone into a v6 over a v8. Sure theres a biased opinion in the 4.6 SECTION (its crazy i know) however go out in public and ask a stranger if they would rather have a v6 or v8 mustang. I doubt your lovely 3.8 liters of raw power and mailtruck exhaust tone appeals to the masses. my point is, buy a gt if you can afford a gt

I got stuck with one, huh? I bought one because I wanted to, and I owned a V8 Mustang at that time, and have owned several since then. I'm pretty sure it rolls off the lot 'drivable' - so you are wrong about needing to spend money. I'm not talking anyone into a V6 over a V8, I'm saying buy what fits the need. Believe it or not, the V6 outsells the GT. And that FACT says the general public is JUST FINE with the V6. Care to argue those numbers as to which version of Ford's pony car fits most people? This is what I mean when I say opinion is mistaken for fact.

This is going to go downhill fast. Not going to get pulled into highschool with a few GT fan boys.

Well in the v6 section they for the most part said get a v8 if I can get one. Here in Texas with gas going up v8's are like the same price as a v6. The thing is thought when I had my 96 gt at about 140K miles-ish(My odometer broke so thats my best guestimate) the trans went out and the intake manifold went out about the same time. Has things like that happend with yalls v8's?

Also when I had that gt I didn't have a led foot, but when I got my truck I got one. So I'm not sure how I will carry that over, but the higher off the ground every thing feels slower so maybe thats why. But either way if I can get 22mpg thats way better then the 17mpg I'm getting right now. I'm sure I could also get a tune to get a little bit better gas mileage too. Am I right? I've heard you can do that but I've never known anybody thats done it. Everybody just wants a tune for more hp.
