Default 4.6 Hydraulic Lash Adjuster replacement?

hey guys, i was wondering how to replace the hydraulic lash adjusters on a 4.6. i have a friend whos are ticking and he has asked me to help. i dont know if is DOHC of SOHC but i have never worked on either of these valve train systems. just good ole cam in the engine block, so what is the procedure for replaceing the lash adjusters? any special tools? i dont want to take a screw driver to it and end up scratching the cam,
Thanks for any help you might have!

Here is the procedure from the shop manual. The manual shows special Ford tools however there are a number of aftermarket valve spring compressors that will do the job...

is there a way to do it without the tool? haha idk if he could afford it but then again he was just gonna get a new engine instead of fixing what was wrong with it.

Probably, there is not one bit of rocket science involved in making them.

Only a 90-day warranty however.

RockAuto has them (Sealed Power, p/n HT2271) for $157 a set with a 1-year warranty.

$127.84 a set at Autozone, also w/a 1-year warranty...
