Need help newby
Hey Guys,
I have a few questions,
I bought my wife a 1996 gt conv. 4.6 5 speed about 9 months ago it has the PI head swap and the bullitt intake swap too.
Just recently she is complaining of a lack of power surging and pinging at mid to full throttle.
It kinda feels like it is loosing fuel pressure!!
Have any of you guys with the similar car experienced these problems?
I,m new to the forum and would like to see a correctly installed bullitt intake swap i do believe the P/O installer cut several corners.
I know i currently need a alternator top bracket and a cruise control cable.
Does anyone have these parts for sale?
The dipstick doesn't seem to be attached correctly either. Is there a different tube or bracket to mount it correctly with the PI heads?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Kevin D.

Do you know if its tuned? The PI swap on an NPI block adds compression, which can cause detonation (pinging) if you are running cheap gas. So yeah, run some 93 octane and see if it helps. Could have a vacuum leak, but I would suspect a lean engine code if it did. Can't remember if the PI has a different dipstick, I am wanting to say yes.

Ok, if you are running 91 octane and it's still pinging, I am going with vacuum leak or something leaning out the system. I had a full bolt on PI swapped GT with no tune and it didn't ping with 89 and higher octane.

OP,
The lack of power issue is new and hasn't been happening since you owned the car, correct? In that case, you have a mechanical problem, other then the tune. Getting an aftermarket tune may help the drive-ability and power, but won't completely fix your current problem. You should fix the current issue first, then look into a handheld tuner.
If you've always had this issue, then there's a chance your tune is off. Let me know what your exact situation is and we'll try and find a solution!
