Oil filter scam????
What oil filter do you guys use? What's the best?
I use Mobil 1 but I have heard that some have a lower micron rating like motorcraft but it's a lot cheaper does it make it better? Due to the micron rating? What about royal purple ? K&n?

I've used Fram, puralator, and motorcraft. I've also used all the different "stages" they sale. I have never noticed a difference in them other than some are textured to help gripping them in install lol... I change oil as close to 3k miles as I can get, and never had a problem with abnormally dirty or bad oil. I think this is one of those preference things, but someone may know something about filters that I don't.

Fram is junk. Ever cut one open? You'll wonder why you ever put it on your car. Purolater I don't think is any better. I know they had fuel filters that were catching cars on fire a couple years back. Stick with Motorcraft for the best bang for the buck, NAPA Gold is good (that's a wix filter), Wix obviously and K&N is great but very pricey. If you have some money into your motor aka after market heads cams and rev it high etc. Id run a K&N, if its a more or less stock engine, Motorcraft or Napa gold if you want to save some money. Think of it like this, Oil filters are cheaper and easier to change than engines. Buy the best if you plan on keeping your car a while. I can't speak much for mobile 1 but I've never been a fan of their products so probably would never use their filters. The K&N has a metal bypass valve where as many filters use plastic which break.

Walmart here in Florida sells the Motorcraft FL-820S for $3.50 or so--that's all I have used for 6 years and 125k miles.
And I agree Fram filters are crap, here are some photos of one I cut open some years ago.

Fram uses cardboard for example as their top/bottom plates for the pleated filter itself, whereas WIX (Napa) and Motorcraft use a type of silicon or plastic.
