Default TDC

Hey guys I'm going to be pulling the heads (blown head gasket)on my 98gt and need to know if the #1 piston needs to be up for TDC and which cylinder is #1? Is it the front one on the pass-side? I have it down to the timing cover and didn't want to go any further yet. Also I'm thinking of upgrading my cams. I want the motor to have a lope. Can I possibly gain any power using high performance cams using my NPI heads?
Will this cause me any problems with the computer (getting it programmed for the different cams)?. Keep in mind I'm new to these modular engines and have no history with them.lol..
I may try to go with a set of PI heads as well, what year should I be looking for?
thanks for any help

You seriously need a haynes manual. Cylinder 1 is on the passenger side, closest to the front of the car. You can gain power with the NPI heads and cams, but you will need a tune. A better option would be to swap on PI heads.

[rant comment="I apologise up front"]

You know, I have offered the 2000-2003 factory shop manual, on DVD, several times in the classifieds here on this, and other, forum(s)--for a lousy $15 shipped--and have received zero (yup zero, zilch, nada) responses.

This is less than the stinking Haynes or Chiltons manuals, which are wrong just as often as right, and I have become convinced that no one gives a rat's backside about acquiring the knowledge needed, they just want someone to tell them how...

I'll buy one Cliff! I hardly ever cruise the classifieds. Send me a PM!
