What's this red button on my Hurst shifter for?
Hi all. I just bought a 06 GT 5 speed (mustang lol) this past weekend and have run into a few minor problems. Had to unplug the drains under the cowl after a carwash.... that was a mess... but that problems solved.
But anyway, theres this weird button on my Hurst short throw shifter. Yeah I know I'm a newb so bare with me. After a few days of playing around with it trying to figure out what it does, I figured it out but I can't understand why. I press the button while pressing the brake and it locks up the brakes. Pressing the button again, does nothing, but about 10 seconds later, the brakes automatically release. I figured pressing the button again would release the brakes, but nope. I have to wait the full 10 seconds before they release. Kinda cool, I guess... but I'm not sure what it's purpose is. And it kinda scares me. I mean, what happens if I'm rolling down the road, accidentally hit the button and my brakes lock up? What happens if the brakes don't release? Hmmm....

Well it's kind of a neat feature, but I certainly don't want to race. I want the car to be well taken care of, as it seems the previous owner abused the poor thing. Signs of a wreck on the rear end so that sucks. But I don't understand how that line lock could be useful during a race, if you can't manually DISengage the brake. Once it's pressed, I have to wait about 10 seconds for it to disengage on it's own. Why can't it be done manually by pressing the button again?
Once I grow a pair and some money for new tires, I may take it to an open parking lot and play around. This is my first RWD.

Enjoy the car. You should also post your model specific questions here in the 2005-2013 forum.
