Default short shifter boot problem

so... i ordered a short shifter boot from redlinegoods.com for my MGW and it looks great! only problem is i cant seem to figure out how im going to attach it to the bezel. Its going on a 99 cobra so i had to break off the melted tabs to get the old boot off. I have the old one off but cant get the new one on. Ive heard i should glue it on the bezel, but since its stitched up 1.5" shorter than stock, how the heck am i going to do this? anyone had the same issue?

I had the same problem when I put an aftermarket boot on. I just used duckt tape on the underside and taped it to the shifter bezel. looks like hell when you look under it but once installed you would not even know it was taped

you can glue it with silicone for a more secure attachment, but it'll be a bitch if you ever try and take it off

If the boot has a reverse hem at the bottom, like the stock boot, discard the stock metal ring and use the gray 3M tape to fasten the "face" of the reverse hem to the underside of the shift surround. I used the tape when I made my boot 5-1/2 years ago and it still holds strong even after having the surround of several times...
