Default keyless entry remote

I bought my car about two months ago and the remote the owner gave me said it was just about dead. I put a new battery in it and it only works when it wants to. I was going to buy one online but they range from 5$ to 60$ for the same thing. Why so much why so little? If anyone can tell me why or what's a good site to buy one off of Id greatly appreciate it.

The cheap ones for around $10 are bad quality. Ex.
Short range and cheaply made. Remember you get what you pay for it

I bought 2 on ebay about a year ago for about 15 bucks. Came with instructions to program and have not had any problems.

The one I bought off of eBay was just a used factory remote. I paid $10 for it and it is in good shape.
