Replaced my manifold, and now my car knocks at WOT. It is getting to be that time to rebuild/forge a motor for some boost. Since this is my DD, I cannot afford to be without a car while I have the motor done. My plan is to find a low mile 2v, and have it forged and rebuilt. Any ideas on what a low mileage (under 100k) 2v long block would be? I have checked a few sites, and people seem to think these motors are made of gold. I was thinking around 1k give or take, but I have yet to find one for under 1800.

Am I out of whack on my pricing, or does anyone have some good salvage yards (as close to CA as possible)

 

Best advice is to search out a 4.6 from a crown victoria. Same engine. If you call around and say Mustang they are going to rape you on price say crown victoria and they suddenly come down to a more reasonable level.

 

Go find a mark viii engine. Theyre the teksid aluminum block which turns out to be stronger and 80 pounds lighter. I have 2 in storage and a mark viii short block in my gt. They still have the cast crank instead of the forged though.

 

if ur gonna build it just got get one for 150$ from the junkyard out of a vic or similar car, just make sure the crank turns and go from there.

 

I do plan on building it over time. My current motor has developed a knock at WOT only after replacing the cracked intake manifold. There were 0 problems before that.

My biggest issue will be passing CA smog. Not looking for a serious built motor, just a forged 4.6 that can handle around 500hp.

 

Just get a junkyard motor, ur replacing the internals anyway why spend the cash on a pullout motot

 

This is true. If you're replacing the internals with forged parts all you really need is the block correct?

 

Pretty much. I have a line on a few built motors in my area with little to no run time for a decent price. Still shopping around.
