Just bought a nice 1996 GT, 50k miles, stock. What are suggestions to get it into order for a little 1/4 mile drag racing? Nothing serious, street driving and just fun. We are thinking of tuneup, transmission fluid, does the rear end fluid need changed at 50k miles? Anything else you recommend? K&N filter etc. Is there anything we should be careful about? I had this 4.6 engine before in my T-bird and I liked it.

20 years old.I would change the rear end lube.(I'm a fan of using a LubeLocker gasket. ) I's also replace the fuel filter.
Track time will just be for fun.I think that the newer V6 Mustangs will out run these older Mustang GTs.(I wouldn't even want to put my 04 GT up against a Honda Accord v6. ;-) though mine would get bonus points for good sounds )
