Purchase a new alternator (or battery)
#11
The one in your Amazon link says it fits '01 thru '04 3.8 (3.9 if '04) V6 models. I'm confused on what car you have though, as your avatar pic shows an '05+ V6 car. Based on the two 4.0 Fords I have (both Explorers, an '03 and '08) that alternator does not look correct. So, what car is this for?
If the battery has been charged and load tested and they say it's bad then it probably is. An alternator that has been failing for a while (thus increasing the load on the battery) can make that happen. To answer your question though, I would replace the alternator first and go from there. If the battery is toast and won't hold a charge it won't take too long to find out.

Assuming you have an '05+ 4.0 V6, here is what your alternator should look like. And you'll notice that they carry like 9 different replacements ranging in price from $90 to $200.

I did it today. After two starts that barely turned over the car, it was only a matter of time before the car would strand me somewhere. Replaced it after after work. Car is running great. We will see how it starts tomorrow morning before work.
