ok, im sure this is just because it was on some small $hitty computer speakers, but that did not sound any better than my stock exhaust 67wonab. in fact i thought it sounded a little tinny and high pitched compared to mine. sorry, but thats just what i heard.

I was more impressed with the old dude in the whitey T smoking a cigarette than I was with the sound. Next time I do a bolt-on, I want him on location.

To me the stock exhaust is REALLY good. I have put a lot of musclear exhausts in 60's stuff and some of it wasent as nice as the 05+ GT.

I have yet to be convinced that except for sound preference, there is any worthwhile improvments to be made.

For the amount of money that a long tube setup costs and the work involved. It isnt worth 15 HP to me.

To make matters even better, my stock system is breaking in and getting louder and sweeter every day. And since the new tune went in, the whole damn car is louder, intake and exhaust. Almost as loud as I would want it and still maintain a sort of low profile.

ORIGINAL: Long Tube headers are worth 20-30 HP

You know, I might catch some slack for this but I call B.S. I have yet to see any dyno results of a 20+ hp gain buy just changing any ONE piece of our exhaust system. First of all you can't just change to LTs without moving the cats or eliminating them which is likely worth 5-10 hp right there. In fact, if I remember right MM&FF did that 3 month exhaust comparo last yr where they did a full exhaust swap and only saw a grand total of 14 hp. PLEASE, someone post pre and post dyno numbers to prove me wrong! B/C if they do I would be interested in getting a header setup myself as long as it incudes cats.

I couldn't agree more with this. The exhaust on these car is already free flowing and as far as 20+ horse power increase with a set of longtubes....not in this life time. The only possible way you could acheive such numbers from a set of headers is if you had a blower on the car with stock exhaust....then changed to longtubes....then yes you would see a 15-25 hrs pwr increase.

Take a look at the mag's and all the dyno sheets...there is little to be gained thru the exhaust with these cars....10-12 max.

And who the hell would by $1000 + for long tubes anyway? Plus have fun putting those in!

You should go with flowmasters exhaust. They are very loud and they look better on the car.

Very informative...Kenne Bell site says '4-5 hp gain' NOT worth it ...Only if your doing major mods would it be worth while....Good forum, thanks for the hard facts....

They could be talking, and most likely are, about after market shorty headers. Usually when talking about Long Tube headers, they specify this. 3-5 HP is what everyone says about after market shorty's. Freeing up the exhuast alone will do nothing unless you let more air in the the engine in the first place. Lets see a dyno with just a cai with stock exhaust then with the long tube headers. This is a middle school science expirement, you need to remove the variables. I bet you will then see you 15-20 hp that everyone is claiming.

Headers to me are just a pita. And given the price, pain in the ars install, increased difficulty to work on certain parts of the car with them in, low ground clearance, emissions issues or crappy aftermarket cats, etc, etc.

I would rather admit that I lose the 15 horse than go through all that BS.

I can see if it had some type of horrible low flow manifolds on it. But they arent half bad.
