Is that 400hp at the wheels? I'm guessing not. I probably don't need 400rwhp, but i'd like the option to upgrade whatever I get. I want be buying until next year anyway, but thanks for the heads up.

There are no flukes IMO.

well this is depressing. No way can I afford a turbo and forged rods/pistons/etc. at the same time.

Can these turbos/supercharges be turned to produce less power? I assume the hellion turbo can be run at a lower boost level until the engine is upgraded, correct? Maybe i'll go back to my original idea of the saleen supercharger. That'll get me just over 400hp without breaking **** and for $800 more I can get the upgrade kit to make 80 or so more hp.

I really like the turbo idea for the sound and gas mileage. I think i'll email brent and ask about their kit and what's a save hp level/boost level to run on a stock block.

it was probably just a fluke thing . there are plenty of our cars out there running 11lb springs with no problems. i havent heard of one failure from the guys who run the PH kits with the 9 lb spring. thats not a bad idea to call brent or just talk with john urist. also if you want low boost turbo kit, TURBONETICS is releasing their kit in jan. 07. 400HP and 400TQ.

A turbo can be set to produce 5 lbs or so if you want. This was prob a fluke at such low psi. Second of all if you get the kit I would recommend upgrading and getting an electronic boost controller. That way you can adjust the boost inside the car w/o having to replace springs.

the psi isn't really a factor is it? The amount of horsepower and torque is what causes things to break. I'm sure anyone running that much hp/tq would like to believe it was a fluke, but I have my doubts.

Well what failed was the rod down next to the crank at one of the bolt holes. I doubt this had anything to do with the tune.

I'm not trying to imply that the tune had something to do with the failure. You could have possibly had a weak rod that would have failed eventually even on a stock motor. It's also possible that pushing that much hp/tq on the stock motor will cause 1 out of 10 cars to break, it could be 1 out of 100, but I don't like either of those odds personally.

Brenspeeds hellion setup claims 380rwhp with the 5psi of boost and 500rwhp/530 ft lbs of tq at 11psi on a stock motor, so I guess they are fairly confident that the majority of stock GT's can handle up to that without issue or they wouldn't include the springs and tune for that much power.

If I go turbo i'll be buying it from brent and installing myself. I've had nothing, but great service from them and would be happy to hand them $5k.

The psi is prob the biggest factor -.-.

Well I am very happy with the Hellion kit and will recommend it to anyone going the turbo route. I am still amazed at how well it fit in the car and the way that it looks. I have to say that they really spent the extra time developing this kit and didnt cut any corners. I just have to say this has given me the perfect reason to crank up the boost. The reason why my engine failed was due to the high quality powder cast rods that ford installed in our blocks. So the lesson of this story is if you are willing to play the game you must be willing to pay. Also just so everyone knows your car will eventually break when you try to increase the power.

Yes I did mean a little sarcasm when I said "high quality powder cast rods".
