Rear end whine

RE: Rear end whine
The TSB is 05-20-2. They replace the ring and pinion, bearings and differential bearings. The problem is it's only a temporary fix b/c they're replacing the parts, but they are the same parts, just new ones. Odds are, in another 2500 miles the noise will return. I am of the opinion that the noise is from the differential bearings, heres why.
I've had my rear end replaced twice with 3.73's and the noise did not go away. I spoke with the shop that did it regarding the TSB that Ford has out and went over the parts that Ford replaces when doing the TSB. They said everything that the TSB mentions was replaced when they did the rear except the diff bearings.
Now I could bring it back to Ford and have them do the TSB on it under warranty providing I don't tell them I had the rear done, but then they would go ahead and put back the original 3:31's and my original money would be wasted. So, i've decided to live with the noise. The guy that owns the shop that did my rear end has the same noise and knows that it's not dangerous so his recommendation was to live with it also. A permanent fix might be acheived by getting an aftermarket differential as others on this board who have had the TSB done report the noise eventually coming back. Hope this helps

RE: Rear end whine
My dealer will not install anything but stock spec components. Something about EPA rules and such. Anyway, I don't want to stuff anymore money into this problem. It's already cost me too much and too much of my time.
