Need Advise
I recieved my UD pulley set from brenspeed today and will attempt to install them on sat. I plan to use a universal swival impact set up because I cant find an impact that is small enough to get in between the fan and the crank pulley.I hope the angle wont be a problem. Any insight would be helpfull from you guys that have done this yourself.[8D]
Use a breaker bar and see if you can quickly break loose the bolt, with the belt on. if not, another way is to put the breaker bar on and sit it against something, non breakable, and make sure it will sit there, proabaly 1 o'clock position. Unplug your coil packs, then get into your car and act like your trying to start it, but do very small bumps, one maybe two. Caution though, if you didn't place it in the right spot or it's sitting against something that can break easily, it will break. If done right, crank tries to turn right forcing the bolt to stay and loosen up.
I would use this as a last means if you can't get an impact to do it.

Just pull the fan out. It's 2 bolts and one electrical connector. It comes out VERY easily and leaves you a lot more room to work. Just pull it out and stick a piece of cardboard against the radiator so you don't accidentally bend any fins.

I am in the process of removing the fan. Im working on the car after work each day. I have an auto and brenspeed said I should be able to get about 60 ftlbs of torque on the crank pulley bolt without the impact. Then he said loosen the bolt 1 turn torque to 36 and then use the impact to turn 90 degrees to meet proper torque specs. Any of you guys have trouble or did everything go smooth for you.
It went really smooth for me. I used a torque wrench to set it to the 36-lb mark and then used a breaker bar to go the extra 90 degrees....then again I havea manual so that's easily done. Using an impact would work in your case.
Well after buying my new compressor for the shop I realized that my impact was not strong enough to loosen the bolt to the crank pulley so I went and bought a 380ftlb impact. The nut came off with ease so tonight I will reassemble the car and hopefully be done with the UDP install. As far as I can tell its a complete bitch to work on these autos but fun none the less. Will keep you guys posted on the progress and outcome. I am having a little trouble torquing to 67 ftlbs without holding the converter.
Ok guys the install is complete and the pale horse rumbles back into action again.I can't possitivally say that I feel a power difference in the motor but I did notice a much more calm increase and decrease in the rpm ranges. I also had a concern with my exhausts popping if I reved the motor to 3g before the UDP's. I can say that issue is gone now. I am not sure why but I can rev the motor to 5000 or more and when I let off the gas she quiets down normal with no back presure noise and no popping. All in all I am happy with the product and the outcome. I guess the dyno next month will tell if Ive boosted enough to get 300 to the wheels. My goal by the way!!! Thanks for the help you guys gave..[sm=bounceybounce.gif]
