Default Gear or not to Gear??

I am sorry Gang, I do not know what happend. I lost power just about the time I hit the "ok" to post my message, so I don't know if it worked or not. Please excuse my double post in the event it happens.

Hello,
I have a new 2007 Mustang GT with an automatic transmission with overdrive, and running 3:31 gears. Sofar I have two mod's: C&L cold air intake, and Tuner from Brenspeed. I am very happy with my purchase so far. I want to change to either 4:10's or 4:11's. Has anyone running an automatic done this? If so, how do you like it?
My biggest concerns in changing gears is creating problems.
1. Will changing hurt my automatic transmission?
2. Will this effect or hurt my traction control?
3. How is driving on the interstate?, also with overdrive?
4. Gas Milage is not my biggest concern.
5. Will changing my gears hurt my longevity in my drivetrain, (transmission, etc.)?

I have been considering this modification since I purchased my car. I would appreciate any experience and information that anyone can share with me. I want to get all the information I can on this modification so that I feel confident that I will not be headed for a mechanical HEADACHE.
I have had some tell me that it would be better not to mess with changing gears for Ford has setup our mustangs with their opinion of best combination of modifications. I would like to hear ALL OPINIONS.

Thank you,
Casper

Thank you,
Casper

Changing to a 4.10 gear ratio is definately going to hurt your traction, upon hard acceleration (IE Drag Racing) you will need to have some stickier tires. At highway speeds you'll be driving at a higher RPM, but in essence you should see better city travel as far as mpg.

I'm not exactly sure how it will have an effect on your drivetrain. I don't think it would matter all that much. It will make your car have to shift faster, so it could increase its wear and shorten its life, but not sure by how much. No expert in this field but just offering anything I can offer.

Enjoy. PS, a lot of people with Automatics choose anywhere from 3.73-3.90.

i am running 4.10s on an auto. I do not think it has much of an effect on the drivetrain unless you beat the crap out of the car all the time. If that is the case then it will not be gears which cause a premature dead of the car.

It will add alittle more wear and tear to your engine and tranny but not much, you will increase your rpms about 300-400 rpms, so it won't be that much wear and tear. I would go with 4.10's if you want a real bang for the buck, no less than 3.90's but i would stick to FRPP gears, you can make motives quiet but it's on the installer to make it right.

The traction control works off the braking or reducing fuel to help maintain traction, so it won't hurt it. Traction off the line and such, like mentioned, will suffer if you nail it from a go.

I've been thinking about upping my auto to 3.73 gears as well down the road. Stupid question, but how much would it affect the @ss dyno anyway? Is it like going from no tune to tuned?

A 3.31 to a 3.73 will give a little more kick in the pants, but 4.10s' for a auto would be alot better. For me, manual, like mustangman said, I have 4.30s in the mail and can't wait till they get here.
Back in my 95 Gt when it had 3.08's stock, 3.73 was awesome, later i put 4.10's in and it was even better.

Agreed *if* installed correctly. One of the reasons people have better luck with the FRPP gears is they use the same shims as stock and are therefore easier to do right. To me it was worth the extra $30.
