moving the weight back
Hi all.
I'm new to Mustangs, though the first car I bought when I was a kid was a 1980 Mercury Capri 4-banger.
I'm finally graduating from college at the not-so-young age of 39, and am looking for a 2005 Mustang GT convertible for a project car.
(Need to fill all that study time
)
Once I find the right one, and before I go nuts on the engine, I'm wondering about weight distribution.
How do I get more to the rear?
Is it possible to put a Corvette type transmission/rear end into a Mustang?
I'm not a gearhead, yet, but plan on learning on-the-job as I get into this.
It's kinda my personality.
So...this may be a stupid question and I just don't know it.
Any suggestions, thoughts, guffaws, mocking musings??
Thanks.
TJ

Well you can use the search section on this site to help you find out more on suspension set ups that people are running and how they like them. It also depends on how you want to drive/race the car. From the sound of it you want more weight transfer to the back so your looking for traction out of the hole. So i would say more of a strait line car. Just look around and ask questions and people will be more than happy to help you. Second... I dont know why you would want to put corvette trans and rear end in a mustang. That would be shooting yourself in the foot. By the time that you bought a corvette trans and rear end with all the fabrication that would be required for that to work you would have spent more money on that than just using and building the one that you have. I have talked to people and the drag strip that have 1000+ rwhp going to the 8.8 rear ends. No they are not stock and not in a s197 mustang but that gives you an idea on what they will stand up to if built right.
