Default Ford Racing Aluminum Driveshaft - Balance Weight

I bought a FRPP M-4602-G aluminum driveshaft, and noticed a plate welded on near the pinion end. It appears to be a balance weight.

In the attached picture, you can see from both angles how the plate is attached. From the pinion end, it sits tightly against the shaft. But if you look at it from the transmission end, there is a gap of more than ⅛ inch.

I am worried about this gap collecting debris and throwing off the balance. Because it's just aluminum, I was thinking about taking a hammer to it and forming the plate closer against the shaft. What are your thoughts?

Holy crap !!! That's what their letting out the door nowadays ???

Definitely send it back, and ask for some refund/discount on future purchases. I'd think they'd want to make this right and protect they're reputation somewhat.

I just got off the phone, and my supplier is telling me this is normal. Any other driveshaft off the shelf is expected to be similar, and they assure me it will be just fine. If it does develop an issue, however, they are going to take care of me.

They have put me in touch with Ford Racing (now Ford Performance), who also confirms it to be acceptable. I am sending Ford Performance the pictures so they can determine if the gap is indeed excessive.

that's because they don't want to do anything about it....FRRP doesn't even make their driveshafts anymore, they are contracted out to a third party and quality is absolute shyt and you pay more..........junk IMO and BS as what they deem acceptable.......I wouldn't put that piece of shyt looking part on a salvage yard car

Nice big sticker in the middle of the tube confirms it was outsourced to Neapco.

The guys at Ford Performance say it will be fine, and not to alter it. At speed, the driveshaft will be spinning too fast for debris accumulation.

I am disappointed in the alignment of the plate, but that's a cosmetic issue. Since it's underneath the car, I won't be seeing much of it anyway. I'll take a look at it after a year to confirm the absence (or presence) of build-up.

Well all I'm taking away from this is where I'm not buying my next driveshaft from. Hope it works out for you, but how will that gap NOT fill up ???

Maybe the weld bead on the tube directly ahead of the gap might help to deflect incoming bits away from the crevice? I dunno. I'm going to put it on today and force myself to stop looking at it. I'll definitely check up on it later, though.
