Vibration After 4.10 Install
Has anyone encoutnered a vibration at high speeds (80+) after installing Ford Racing 4.10 gears? I had a Ford Racing 4.10 gear set installed on my 07 Mustang GT this morning at JBA in San Diego. As soon as I got the car on the highway I immediately notices a slight vibration and a low howl at speeds over 80 mph. I turned around and went right back to JBA to have them check it out. They claim that the driveshaft is not balance to handle the extrarpm's of the 4.10 gear set and recommended an aluminum driveshaft. Somehow this dose not sound correct to me as I have had the car to higher speeds than 80 mph with the old 3.55's and never had a vibration problem (car has 6,600 miles on it). It would seem to me that at higher speeds with the old 3.55's the driveshaft would have hit the same rpm's as it does now at 80 mph with the 4.10's. I have an appointment nextSaturday morning forthe aluminum driveshaft (looking forward to the weight savings), but I think the slight vibration and low howl is more like my old Bimmer whenwheel bearings were going.Any help/advice will be appreciated. .
Thanks
Dale

RE: Vibration After 4.10 Install
I actually heard that if you encounter problems like this with gears installed, that the gears werent installed correctly. I'd take it to another shop and ask them.

Thanks for you reply. If the vibration does not go away after the aluminum driveshaft goes in I will ask JBA to pull the rear end apart on their dime. If they refuse or can't fix it,I will take it to my local Ford dealer to check out.
Thanks

sounds like the install was not shimmed properly! So many threads on this and so many responses that the install was not done properly. Was it FRPP gears or motive. Many problems with the motives aligning properly. Did you get the kit to install the gear with (new shims etc,). Gears will not whine if aligned properly!

Thanks for your input. The gears installed were Ford Racing (M4209G410A) OEM quality. JBA has been around a long time and must to hundereds of gear swaps every year, but I am thinking you are right and they were not installed properly.

Hey man,
I had the same problem with mine. I took it back to the shop and they unbolted the driveshaft, turned it about a quarter of a turn, and bolted it back up. The vibration is now gone. I've been running it about5 months now without any issues...

It is interesting you mention this. I was thinking about trying this. I will have the car on jack stands first thing tomorrow morning.
Thanks
