Looking for 4.10 ASAP
Alright guys well i am planning on doin 4.10 as soon as possible. i have the money i just need to find a shop that installs it. and i dont know how to much to pay in labor. Ive read that alot of people would rather just go with the ford racing gears vs the motive. and i really would like to soo. i called evolution peformance up. they said the gears + everything you need to install it is gonna come out to 400$. and other places ive heard all parts come out to 250. i dont know who to beleive. does anyone know of a quality shop in the PASADENA, near LOS ANGELES area. and how much should i expect to pay for both labor and parts. total 600$ ?

If you order the Ford Racing gears make sure you get the ones with the part number ending in A not M. The shop showed me the catalog yesterday and it lists two 4.10 sets. The ones ending in M are about $50 cheaper... these are the ones by Motive gears just stamped up Ford and they cause many owners a lot more issues.
My first install set me back $475. It took them 7 days, they had to do it twice and it was never right. I took it to another shop yesterday and it cost $750. They showed me the wear on the pinion bearing where the first shop hadn't set the preload correctly. The second install seems a lot better at the moment.
I'm not saying going for the most expensive is the way but when you talk to the installers make sure they mention the words Pinion depth gauge, back lash, gear pattern and pinion bearing preload. Someone else can probably come up with some other points.

RE: Looking for 4.10 ASAP
I paid $360 for parts and labor. That didn't include the gears though. The actually labor charged was $300, 5 hoursat $60 per hour to be exact. The other $60 was for a new inner pinion bearing and race and carrier shims, plus tax was included in that price. If your install kit doesn't come with a new inner pinion bearing and race, you will need one. That is the minimum you need to replace as far as bearings go, removing the stock bearing off the pinion shaft without damaging it isn't practical, so count on needing a new one. My shop reused all the other bearings as far as I know, including the carrier bearings.
I have no noises at all by the way and I got the frpp gears from summit racing for $219.
