although I'd say that if you're already grinding second, the damage to the trans is already done. Trust me...my second gear grind started with only super-fast shifts at redline, then I missed second one more time and it grinded second on every upshift and downshift, regardless of how gently I put it in gear. Tranny swap at 3500 miles. A shifter upgrade wouldn't hurt but that isn't your problem, it's the damn body mounted shifter. Frickin ford.
