Default 4.30 gears

i have a new set of motive performance 4.30 gears and was wondering how much defference it is from a 4.10 gear since every one here says 4.10 are the best .
i am worried that i will lose alot of top end speed like many people tell me .
should i install them? i dont want to install it if it will top out less then 140-150mph
please help any one tried these gears on s197's?

btw my car is a manual 2007 gt mustang

Those are a good gear. I have the 4.10's and should have went with the 4.30's top end is fine. I also have 5 speed and still tach around 3200 at 80 mph with the 4.10's.

I asked about 4.30s and 4.56 gears a while ago, after taking everything into account I'm glad I went with 4.10s. They seem right for the car. Prometheus is right, the top end is still fine. One nice thing about 4.30s would be that you wouldn't need too many 3rd to 2nd shifts in daily driving anymore!

Good Lord what is it with you people requiring your car to do 150 mph? Even the high speed chases on TV are only about 100 mph. And it's not going to hurt you much if at all anyway. Your top speed is affected much more by the aerodynamics at that speed. You might cut into it some....but don't you want to feel the power down at the lower speeds where you drive all the time instead???

That being said, 4.30 is an excellent gear. After installing my 4.10s I wish I had went with the 30s instead.

For God's sakes man it's a Mustang, not a Lamborghini. You don't need to drive 150 mph.

4.10s is as big as i would go. 80mph at 3200 rpms is quite high if you are ever driving on the freeway. I actually went from the stock 3.55's to the 4.10's and then settled on 3.90's.

shoot, if all you want is to shift alot brenspeed sells some 4.56's

Suoperdave, I'm with you. This whole top speed thing baffles me. 0 to 60/pull out to pass seem to be what this car is about. 4.10 (even 4.30s) just seem to fit with the small block. IF I were to go well over 100 I'd first want to upgrade the suspension and brakes, not the drivetrain!

Q8stang, it sounds like sleeper05 is still running his 4.30s, check the 2005-2008 general threads.

He did switch back tot he 4.30's. Keep in mind he is also drving around on 20's. At the track he has some 17's with MT streets. I have the 4.10's on 18's and comparing mine to Sleeper's, our final drive is probably identical due to tirediameter difference.

IMO 4.10 is the most I would want. Eventually I will go down to 3.73's or 3.90's when my rear end goes out.

I thought about going 3.73, but that is just way to much gear. I am very happy with 3.55's and wouldnt change them if it was free.

I couldnt imagine putting 4.30's in, i feel like all i would be doing is shifting, no fun in that.

I was very skeptical of putting the 4.10 gears in and after doing so ....you could easily get away with 4.30. The 4.30 gears would be a blast to drive !!! I don't really shift that much more and at 3000 rpm I am more or less about 80mph, not really a big deal since these motors really don't even make any power till 3000 or more rpms. And besides ...how fast do you really need to go ??? It's all about quick not fast !!

So you guys who say 4.30 gear is a good choice, do you run your car at the track? If you do, arent you going in to overdrive by the time you hit the end of the track. If your gear is that low and you are hitting 5th - then 4.30 is a bad choice regardless of how you feel about top end speeds of 150 MPH.
Yes 4.30 is a good choice in a small block motor but only in a motor that is capable of more than 6200 RPM but using overdrive while drag racing is not conducive to acceleration.
I run 3.73 and I amtopping outin 4th (6000) at the traps at 118-119 MPH.
