New Gears & 500 Mile Break-In Period?

New Gears & 500 Mile Break-In Period?
I got 3.73 FRPP Gears installed at Evolution Performance and Fred said to AVOID Wide Open Throttle for the first 500 miles. He said they put a wear guard on it so they can tell if you drove the car at WOT. Any experts on gears out there agree with this statement? I don't wanna damage anything so I am going to take it easy and drive like a great grandmother (nothing against them).

Ford installed mine and said to do 500 mile break in varying speeds. Then change rear gear oil. Never heard of a wear guard ? I mean why would you put something in your rear axel that doesn't belong there. When everything must be perfect or chance gear whine or something else?

Wear guard?! That's a new one to me. While a break-in period is good for any new drivetrain components for longevity, never heard of any kind of "wear guard" for rear gears. If rear gears are installed correctly, there should be no need to baby it for 500 miles. The wear pattern on the gears will establish itself within just a few miles.

You just need to 'heat cycle' them three times (warm up the rear end to normal operating temp and let it cool down completely). I'll bet you've already done that.

When I had my rear end done they told me to give it about 400 miles before I got on them too hard. I did and still blew the rear end out anyway....lol
But give it a bit before you kill them, they need a lil bit of seating.
