HP rating for a 5 speed

RE: HP rating for a 5 speed
I think you are asking how much HP the stock motor and clutch will take before failure?
I have read two separate articles recently: 1) Steeda was doing a buildup and said the stock motor was solid up to about 420-430 HP. 2) In the Jan 08 Mustangs & Fast Fords - Al Papitto (noted engine builder) says the stock internals are good up to about 450 HP. Any higher than that and you are asking for trouble.
Don't know about the clutch.

RE: HP rating for a 5 speed
kinda off topic but a part of me wants to get the 5 speed..then worry about the issues like traffic
and other problems when they arise lol..or actually..get the 5 speed anyways..regardless of any problems and just deal with it! rofl.
pretty sure the 5 speed can handle about the same if not more hp then the stock auto..

RE: HP rating for a 5 speed
The stock internals of the engine are pretty safe till 450rwhp. After that it is not if it when. If you don't drive the car alot or hammer it all the time, the engine could go a long time with 500 rwhp. I know guy's that are doing it. As far as the clutch in a 5 speed, I have 440 rwhp and 446 torque on car with 19000 miles. And my clutch is not liking hard pedal launches or speed shifting over 6000 rpm. If I run it hard I can smell the clutch scream'in for a cool down. I will be upgrading the clutch soon probally to a spec stage 3 plus or maybe even a twin disk. I plan on adding a 75 shot of laughing gas this year. Which will put me over 500rwhp. Hope that helps!

RE: HP rating for a 5 speed
As far as the drive train goesI have read many articles that usually start changing this stuff:, 31 spline axel's, clutch, and 4" drive shaft's when the car rwhp goes above 600. I think it depends on what you are planning to do with the car. If it is going to see a lot of track time, it might be wise to do them even if your power level is not way up there. If it is a daily driver or weekend warrior and a little track time, your engine will let go before the drivetrain parts. Especially if your putting over 500 rwhp on stock internals.

anymore input on the 5 speed in terms of how much power it can handle or loose ends it may
have to worry about? bad synchros, poor gear selectors etc.??
