BBK Headers Install?..
Just finished installing my BBK Shorties yesterday. I agree with GT Bob, it is a PITA doing the job yourself, but well worth it. The gains were very noticeable and once the workis finally done and youcan feel the difference, there is no better feeling thanknowing that you did it yourself (just my opinion). I was a little hesitant about unbolting the motor mounts and raising the engine slightly, however it is not hard at all and well worth it (I learned the hard way). I used the above mentioned article (http://www.mustangmonthly.com/techar...ers/index.html )also. I did the job in my garage with two jackstands and a floor jack. Again, this is just my assessment and opinions.
So shorites do seem like a decent mod? i posted before and everyone kept saying how much of a difference LTS make and not to bother with shortes.Thing is ive already got an H-pipe on order and dont plan on headers till summer if not later and wanted to slap the H on before then.
I read all of the same things about everyone swearing byLT's and got really confused as to what todothere for a while. I don't doubt that LT's will give you better gains than shorties, however I can tell you that I noticed a considerable gain (just my personal experience) with the shorties.I installed my x-pipe a couple of months ago and I really did not wantto deal with having to modify the x-pipe to work with LT's. Again, just my opinion, but I think the shorties area good investment and I am very satisfied with the gains that I got.My next step will to be get a tune on it and see what happens.Good Luck!!
I thought i read and heard so many times from people with shortys that you get pretty much no hp mayb 5-8 max on shorties??? cuz are stock manifolds are already really good.
"Just my personal experience," but I noticed what I feel to be a considerable gain with the shorties. Might have got an awesome gain with LT's, guess we'll never know. As for the stock headers, go to this site and look at the difference between the BBK shorties and the stock headers. http://www.mustangmonthly.com/techar.../photo_19.html . Evenif the stock headers are considered to to be really good, you still cant deny the fact that the bbk's allow more airflow.
I did BBK LTs on my car. The only problem I had was on the passenger side header, one of the bolts wouldnt fit behind the tubing so we had to cut some of it off to get it back in. I did mine on a lift so we just dropped the whole k-member and had a pole jack holding the motor. Also the BBK LTs tuck nicely under the car
I had the same problem with one of the topbolts on the drivers side. Didn't have the luxury of a lift, but I managed to get it done withthe help of a friendin a long day. One day whenthemoney permits, I might go with LT's, but for now I'm happy with theshorties.

Longtubes will no doubt give high peak numbers, but realistically, when your driving, how long do you stay at peak rpm's, evne when racing? half a second? a quarter? How long do you travel thyrough the offpeak powerband? 99.9% of your time. While internet car forums have helped this lifestyle grow into something that really dwarfs anything that had gone one ever before, even in the 60's, one VERY bad thing that has become prevalent is what I call the "Internet Dyno Queen Mentality". A huge peak number is all that matters to people with this mentality. Screw driveability, screw having a broad flat torque curve with lots of useable power.. . Give me the largest, laggiest, hardest to spool turbo that makes no power below 7K rpms because once it spools at 7500 rpms, I have a peak HP number of 8million.
