Synthetic Oil...when to switch?

Synthetic Oil...when to switch?
MY baby just rolled over to 6,000. I am going to switch over to a full syn, my dealer told me to wait until 8,000 before i switch. Is this true? I know alot of high end cars come with syn oil from the factory.

Whether it's true or not, I don't know. But for years they've said that when the engine is new, it needs a certain amount of friction to properly seat the rings and mate the internal parts. Hopefully someone else will jump in.

Ford says that our stangs are broke in after 500 miles. They suggest that you will get better fuel economy after 2000 miles so it would lead one to believe that after 2000 miles, it is broke in for real. I changed to M-1 after 2844 miles and don't have any missing between oil changes. I do believe the tollarances are closer that they used to be and the crosshatch pattern ain't what it used to be. Switch away. You are good to go.

A friend of mine today told me that he has seen syn oil add afew horse on a dyno....
I didn't want to call BS because i'm unsure if it is possible or not. Any truth?

synthetics do not add any HP, but merely release some HP the motor already has that was restricted before. Plus, a few horses difference on the dyno cannot really be considered a "gain". Each dyno run will be different and a few HP off.
Rings seat the very first few seconds the engine is started. Per Ford manual, the engine needs no breaking in. But switching to synthetic could be done as soon as the first oil change.
But dont forget, Ford Motorcraft's synthetic blend is still good.

I'm still using the factory stuff, just did the second oil change at 5K and noticed the Motorcraft oil is a synthetic blend. At 10K I'm going with Amsoil, though after it's good and broken in.

So your saying there is no advantage in switching over to a full syn? Both oil changes that i have done so far i've used castrol syn-blend w/ a puralatorpure-one oil filter.

If you have faith in synthetics and what they're designed to do,including not break down as fast as dino's and blends, then you have the benefit of extended oil change frequencies. Otherwise, I'd be fine with dino oil and 3,000 mile oil changes for the Stang.
